Five Nights Extra features Andrea Doria shipwreck survivor’s account
Hansen survived the famous shipwreck of the transatlantic passenger vessel, Andrea Doria, in 1956 at the age of seventeen. In addition to sharing the history of this passenger vessel, Hansen will recount her personal story of being rescued at sea as a young girl and provide insights to the bygone era of Atlantic passenger travel.
Hansen is a Vassar College graduate who left Wall Street to pursue her passion for theater. As President of The Drama League, she founded the Directors Project. Alumni include such outstanding directors as Christopher Ashley, Artistic Director of the La Jolla Playhouse; James Bundy, Dean of the Yale School of Drama and Artistic Director of the Yale Repertory Theater; and Diane Paulus, Artistic Director of the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University. She later founded Theater Masters to help emerging playwrights, and her most recent program, JNS Theater for Social Change, uses playwriting to look at current critical topics.
Hansen has presented on travel and theater at organizations including The Society for the Four Arts in Palm Beach, Florida; the English Speaking Union in New Orleans, Louisiana; the Somerset Club in Boston, Massachusetts; the Colony Club in New York, New York; Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, Maine; The Arts Club of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois; and The Redwood Library in Newport, Rhodes Island.
