Careers in Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Psychologists are actively involved in studying and understanding mental processes, brain functions, and behavior. The field of psychology is considered a "Hub Science" with strong connections to the medical sciences, social sciences, and education (Boyack, Klavans, & Borner, 2005).

An education in psychology provides students with valuable skills employers seek, such as critical thinking and problem solving (Kuther, 2013). Because psychology connects with so many different areas, psychology majors are well-positioned to pursue careers in many different areas. Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology are employed in 92 different occupation categories (American Psychological Association Center for Workforce Studies, 2017). Below you'll find some of the job categories, specific job titles, and some Ohio State Marion alumni who are employed in those areas.
