A group of engineering students from Ohio State Marion toured the Whirlpool Marion Division plant on Thursday, October 26th, observing all aspects of the dryer production, from drum formation, to stamping, to paint, to final assembly.
Ohio State Marion students learned that there are multiple opportunities for engineers in a modern manufacturing plant from mechanical, to electrical, and industrial systems engineering. Aaron Evans, an Ohio State Marion engineering student serving in the third month of a co-op at the Whirlpool plant told fellow student visitors he’s learned the importance of detail. Specifically, as he was designing a new racking system for the paint lines, he learned that a three-inch difference in the height of the rack made a significant difference in the ergonomics of the operation for the employees who had to use the new rack.
The Whirlpool Marion plant produces approximately 18,000 clothes dryers daily and is one of five Whirlpool plants located in Ohio. The Marion division of Whirlpool employs approximately 2,500 people.
