First Gen Friday is a monthly first-person narrative written by other first generation college students who are now fellow faculty, staff, and students at Ohio State Marion. The goal of the stories is to provide advice to other first generation college students and create a sense of belonging among the campus community.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of a local community committee, The Ohio State University at Marion is pleased to announce that the $250,000 fundraising goal has been met and the campus gymnasium in the Alber Student Center, will be named the Greg Swepston Gymnasium in honor of the beloved Marion resident, coach, mentor and former major league baseball scout.

Ohio State Marion Assistant Professor of Reading Education, Julia Hagge and a team of researchers recently received a $59,000 research grant funded for the upcoming year by The Battelle Engineering, Technology and Human Affairs (BETHA) Endowment, for the research titled, Leveraging Technology to Accelerate Generation and Translation of Evidence-Based Practices in Education.

Ohio State Marion Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Renee Bouley and Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics, Ruben Petreaca recently received an Undergraduate Research Access Innovation Seed Grant from Ohio State in the amount of $10,000 for their research of evolution driven purifying detection in cancer cells.
