Ohio State Marion and Marion Technical College will be returning to in-person classes and activities Wednesday, January 28.
All:
Ohio State University takes very seriously our obligation to provide the full measure of instruction to all students. Please plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and dress appropriately for the weather. As of the writing of this email, Delaware, Franklin, Madison, Marion, Morrow, and Union counties are at a Level 1 snow emergency; Crawford, Hardin, and Wyandot remain at a Level 2.
Students and faculty:
OAA encourages faculty and instructors to offer flexibility to students that request special accommodations necessitated by weather.
Staff:
Staff should work in accordance with their normal schedule in consultation with their supervisor. Ohio State encourages flexibility where possible for those that request special accommodations necessitated by the weather.
Safety tips
Roadways may be hazardous due to blowing and drifting snow, and they may be icy. The university recommends that everyone continue to dress appropriately for the weather and use caution while traveling.
- Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing.
- Wear outer garments that are tightly woven, water repellent, and hooded.
- Wear a hat – 40 percent of your body heat can be lost from your head.
- Wear mittens that are snug at the wrist; mittens are better than gloves.
- Try to stay dry and out of the wind.
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY AT MARION WEATHER CLOSING POLICY
If a Level 3 snow emergency is declared in Marion County (but not necessarily because of a snow emergency in another county) classes will be cancelled and Ohio State Marion campus will be closed
If a Level 1 or 2 snow emergency is declared, Ohio State Marion will make every effort to remain open. However, when conditions reach Level 2, students should pay close attention to area radio and TV announcements for updates and announcements. The Broadcast media will be contacted as soon as possible when all classes are cancelled or the campus is closed.
When classes are cancelled, offices remain open; when the campus is closed, all operations are shut down. Individual class cancellations will NOT be reported to the media; only when ALL classes are cancelled or delayed will the media be asked to make announcements for the campus.
Because Ohio State Marion is a commuter campus and does not utilize public mass transportation, the campus does not close nearly as frequently as area school systems. Closings/cancellations are rare.
Marion Technical College makes weather-related decisions independent of Ohio State. Therefore, students should be certain to listen specifically for Ohio State Marion information.
