Ohio State Marion Director of Student Success programming, Chris Trapp was 1 of 30 leaders from units across the university to complete the inaugural cohort Leadership Certificate Program offered through The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs.
An intensive 6-month program, intended to provide engaging and meaningful experiences to help grow leadership capabilities and create a network of Ohio State leaders who can continue to work together to advance our mission.
"The Leadership Certification (LCERT) program was an impactful experience and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to engage," said Trapp. "Connecting with other leaders from across the university provided the space for sharing and learning from each other’s personal experiences. "
According to Trapp, the group had timely visits from university leaders including President Carter, Dr. Gavazzi, who shared insights from his research on the land grant mission of the university, and USAC Chair, Tracey Boggs, and University Senate Secretary, Jared Gardner, who shared their experiences on leading during times of uncertainty and highlighted some differences between representing staff and faculty.
"Through readings, monthly class meetings, and several papers," said Trapp, "We were prompted to think critically about how to apply learning to our roles as leaders. Topics included leading in the public vs. private sector, supporting teams to lead without an authority role, performance management, motivating teams, leading through conflict, and much more."
