Associate Professor of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology, Frances Sivakoff (pictured left) and Senior Lecturer in English, Amy Tibbals (pictured right) were honored on the field in Ohio Stadium during Ohio State’s opening game vs. University of Akron, Saturday, August 31.
The two Ohio State Marion faculty were among a small select group of university faculty honored for excellence in teaching. Sivakoff was one of five Ohio State faculty recognized for the 2024 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. Tibbals was one of four Ohio State faculty recognized for the 2024 Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer.

Tibbals selected for 2024 Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer
The Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching annually recognizes a maximum of ten faculty members for their teaching excellence. Students, faculty, and alumni may nominate faculty; and a committee of students, previous recipients, and alumni choose the recipients. Recipients are recognized with a $5,000 honorarium made possible by gifts from The Ohio State University Alumni Association, University Advancement, and the Office of Academic Affairs. In addition, the Office of Academic Affairs awards an increase of $1,200 to each recipient’s base salary. Members are also inducted into the Academy of Teaching. Full-time Ohio State faculty members on all campuses with the rank of instructor through full professor in the clinical or tenure track who, in the past three years, have taught undergraduate and/or graduate/professional students are eligible for this award. Previous recipients of this award are not eligible.
The Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer annually recognizes a maximum of six lecturers, senior lecturers, or other associated faculty members for their teaching excellence. Recipients are recognized with a $5,000 honorarium made possible by the Office of Academic Affairs. All associated faculty including senior lecturers and full-time lecturers on all campuses who, in the past three years, have taught undergraduate and/or graduate/professional students are eligible for this award. A committee of students, faculty and alumni select the award recipients.
