Ohio State University at Marion will host an inaugural Community Partner Breakfast on Thursday, September 24, from 8:30–10:00 a.m. in the Guthery Room, Maynard Hall, bringing together faculty and community partners to highlight the teaching and learning collaborations that strengthen Marion and the surrounding region.
This year’s event will feature reflections from faculty whose community‑engaged projects have created meaningful learning experiences for students. Among them is Dr. Nikole Patson, Professor of Psychology, whose work emphasizes the value of connecting academic learning with real‑world needs.
“Community‑engaged teaching gives students a chance to see how their learning matters beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Patson. “When students work with local partners, they gain confidence, purpose and a deeper understanding of how their skills can support the community they call home.”
Dr. Patson noted that these partnerships benefit everyone involved. “Our community partners bring expertise, context, and lived experience that enrich our courses. In turn, our students contribute energy, curiosity, and fresh perspectives. It’s a relationship that strengthens both sides.”
The breakfast will celebrate successful collaborations across Marion while encouraging faculty and organizations to explore new opportunities for engagement. Attendees will hear examples of projects that have supported local agencies, advanced student learning, and reinforced Ohio State Marion’s commitment to serving the region.
