Willow, who also serves as an affiliated faculty member with The Ohio State University Sustainability Institute, will present a free public lecture entitled, “Make Everyday Earth Day.” This session will celebrate the small things each of us can do every day to reduce our environmental impact and be good ancestors for our children and grandchildren. She will begin by sharing more about our own ecological footprints before moving into a series of practical actions. Simple strategies for reducing waste, composting food scraps, eating plant-based meals, and saving energy. Participants are welcome to come with questions and offer ideas of their own as part of an open dialogue.
Willow is an environmental anthropologist who studies how individuals and communities experience and respond to environmental change and the author of several books (including Understanding ExtrACTIVISM: Culture and Power in Natural Resource Disputes, Routledge, 2018). In addition to her academic work, Willow is currently chairperson of the community nonprofit Sustainable Delaware, Ohio.
Buckeye Talks on Tap is free and open to all and offers community members a chance to explore timely issues in an accessible, conversational setting. Inspired by the international Science Café movement, the series brings scholars and citizens together in relaxed environments—pubs, restaurants, and cafés—to discuss topics that matter to our region and our nation.
The event will take place at Bucci’s Italian Scratch Kitchen inside Passenger & Rail Co., 320 W. Center St., Marion, Ohio. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the lecture at 5:30 p.m. followed by a short Q&A. Attendees will be entered into a door prize drawing provided by Marcie DeWitt of Anchor and Away Travel. Guests are welcome to purchase dinner or drinks during the program.
