2019 OSUMTC Marion Mathematics Challenge recognizes high achievers with scholarships and awards

The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion Technical College recently hosted students from six area high schools to compete in the campus's annual high school mathematics competition Friday, December 6, 2019 in Morrill Hall Auditorium on the Marion campus.

This year’s participating schools were Cardington, Harding, Highland, North Union, Pleasant, and River Valley. Once again, students competed as teams, as well as individuals for top scores on a mathematics test. The top three six-person teams received a trophy for their school and individual medals. The three individual highest scores at each grade level received a trophy and scholarships to Ohio State Marion and Marion Technical College totaling $18,000. Both Ohio State Marion and Marion Technical College awarded individual scholarships in grades 9-12, $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place.

This year's guest speaker was Dr. Lawrence Leinweber, a software engineer for ZIN Technologies, Inc., a NASA subcontractor, as our featured speaker. His presentation was entitled, “Math to Mars”.

Trophies and awards are made possible through a generous donation from the Wm. Kay Davis Foundation and trustee Ronald D. Cramer. The committee that worked diligently to write the test, calculate the results, and prepare the awards and certificates included: Dr. Brian McEnnis – Ohio State Marion (emeritus), Dr. John Maharry – Ohio State Marion, Tyler Maley – Marion Technical College, and Sally O’Connor - Marion Technical College
