Marion campus hires new person to oversee activities and events in recently remodeled student center

Meet Erin Slater Ohio State Marion’s new Coordinator of Recreation and Environmental Programming on campus. Slater began in her new role on Oct. 1, 2021.

Now that she has had a couple of weeks to get her feet wet, Slater shared that she will be collaborating with both Ohio State Marion and Marion Technical College administration to create an active engaging environment throughout the newly remodeled Alber Student Center. She also wants to help support and collaborate with the new Marion Café located in the student center.

“My goal in this new role is to ensure the student center is buzzing with student-led activities,” said Slater, such as athletics, tournaments, and events.”

Slater said, “I am extremely excited and thankful for this new journey and look forward to collaborating across the campuses to build relationships and promote a positive experience for our students.”

Prior to joining Ohio State Marion, she served as the Director of Mentoring for the Marion Family YMCA for three years. During that time, Slater ran the Marion Mentors mentoring program and championed their diversity equity and inclusion work.

She is a graduate of Marion Harding High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Degree in Strategic Communications from The Ohio State University in 2013.

Her husband, Jerrod Slater, is also a Harding alumnus and together the couple have two young daughters. Willa is a four-year-old that just started preschool this year and two-year old MJ. The couple also have two rescue dogs named Ralphie and Codley.

According to Slater, she doesn’t not have much time for personal hobbies with work and two toddlers but is an avid cross fitter and her husband is a high school football coach, so that is where you can find her on Friday Nights.
