Dean Rose letter to the Ohio State Marion community
March 23, 2020
In line with the governor’s declaration and President Drake’s guidance, I am sending all facilities staff home for the rest of this week. They will receive “disaster pay,” meaning their regular wages for the rest of the week will be paid despite not having work they can take home.
The facilities staff includes maintenance, grounds and, most importantly at this time of pandemic, housekeeping.
As housekeeping will not be present to sanitize the rest of the week, I am asking that no one enter the buildings for the rest of this week.
We will revisit this decision on Sunday, applying that we learn about the situation as it develops this week and decisions by the university about extending disaster pay for another week.
This was not an easy decision, but the health and safety of all Ohio State employees is of paramount concern right now.
Thanks for your understanding regarding the buildings being closed to all.
