Afro Asian Imaginations
In this session, Johnnie Jackson will discuss the concept of Afrofuturism, the movie Black Panther, and his experiences traveling through East Asia. He will speak to the important of traveling abroad for African American youth. This session is based on an academic paper he co-wrote: “AfroAsia Imaginations.”
Johnnie Jackson is a traveler, critical race theorist, and teacher educator. He has traveled to fourteen countries, and lived in South Korea for four years teaching English as a Second Language and Intercultural Competencies. He is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Educational Leadership at Miami University. Johnnie holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Business Administration and Marketing from The University of Findlay. He is currently the Diversity and Equity Supervisor for Marion City Schools. He writes about black male studies, Afrofuturism, study abroad, and critical race theory.
