We’re excited to share that Ohio State Marion is planning a prescribed burn in the Larry R. Yoder Prairie Learning Laboratory on Saturday, October 11, 2025 (weather permitting)!
What’s a prescribed burn?
It’s a carefully planned and professionally managed fire used to restore and maintain healthy ecosystems. These burns help reduce invasive species, promote native plant growth, and support local biodiversity—all while demonstrating real-world environmental science in action.
Why it’s important:
Prescribed burns are an essential tool in sustainable land management. By conducting them safely and strategically, we help preserve the natural areas on our campus for research, education, and future generations.
What to expect on October 11:
- The burn will take place in specific, clearly marked areas of campus.
- You may notice smoke or activity from trained professionals onsite.
- All appropriate safety measures will be in place throughout the day.
We encourage you to be aware of this important land care effort—and to join us in celebrating how our campus contributes to environmental stewardship and sustainability. This is a meaningful opportunity to witness science in action and support the health of our shared environment.
