Teacher Training and CEUs

Ohio State faculty-led training for K-12 educators

Ohio State Marion builds professional development with the school districts that are part of our community. We start from what your teachers need, in the subjects they teach, on a schedule that fits your calendar. Sessions are led by Ohio State faculty who are working researchers in their fields, and who are also, importantly, people who teach for a living.

We've delivered full-day district institutes, subject-specific workshops, and ongoing partnerships that extend across a school year. Sessions can be hosted on our campus, at your building, or at our Downtown Engagement Hub. Reach out to ideas@ohiostatemarion

Teacher Manufacturing Boot Camp

Area teachers and school counselors from districts in Marion and surrounding counties have the opportunity to participate in the Teacher Manufacturing Boot Camp being organized by America’s Workforce Development Capital, Marion Technical College, Ashland University, and The Ohio State University at Marion.

This program shows teachers what really goes on behind the scenes in the manufacturing industry. Participants will gain first-hand experience with the rewarding careers available in manufacturing companies in Marion County and the skills students need to obtain and retain these positions.

STEMcoding Project

The STEMcoding Project, led by Dr. Chris Orban, associate professor of physics at Ohio State Marion, is Ohio State's flagship effort to integrate computer science and data science concepts into high school math and science classrooms. The program helps students develop coding, spreadsheet, data analysis, and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities connected to real-world topics in physics, environmental science, and sustainability.

A key goal of STEMcoding is to make coding and computational thinking accessible to more students, regardless of their school's resources or access to computer science courses. The initiative provides free classroom activities, teacher professional development, and engaging learning experiences that connect STEM concepts to subjects students already study.

Under the leadership of Dr. Chris Orban and Dr. Scott Zimmerman, STEMcoding has expanded to include data science curriculum, instructional videos, teacher training programs, and partnerships with schools across Ohio. In 2024, the initiative was recognized by The Ohio State University Office of Outreach and Engagement as a Program of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship.
