The Ohio State University at Marion was well-represented at this year's Pelotonia, Ohio State's tenth annual ride for cancer research. The six member team combined to raise $16,323 to date for cancer research at Ohio State.
Team Marion participants, who committed to ride a combined to ride 450 miles last Saturday, August 4th included: junior zoology major and Pelotonia fellow, Bailey Lucas; Alber Enterprise Center Director of Marketing Alice Hutzel-Bateson; Assistant Dean, Leslie Beyer-Hermsen; Associate Professor of Mathematics, John Maharry; Assistant Professor of Molecular Genetics, Ruben Petreaca; and Director of Development & Community Relations, Dave Claborn. Assisting Team Marion by volunteering at the event finish line in Gambier, Ohio were Human Resources Manager, Maryjo Mundey and Alber Enterprise Center Director, Myra Wilson.
"I know I speak for co-captain John Maharry when I say how proud I am of our Marion team," said Claborn.
"Having one of our students, Bailey Lucas, not only riding 100 miles in her first Pelotonia, but also earning a Pelotonia Fellowship is a unique honor for Ohio State Marion," said Claborn.
In addition to riding the 100 mile trek from Columbus to Gambier and being heavily involved in cancer research with Dr. Petreaca, Lucas also represented Ohio State Marion and Pelotonia through a talk with employees of Worthington Industries.
Founded in 2008, Pelotonia was established with the objective to fund life-saving cancer research. Pelotonia is a three-day experience that includes a weekend of cycling, entertainment, and volunteerism. Through its first nine rides, Pelotonia raised more than $157 million for cancer research. The 2018 event has raised $15,573,804 to date, hosting 8470 riders from 322 different Pelotons.
