Ohio State Marion co-hosts Teacher Manufacturing Bootcamp

This week, fifteen teachers and school personnel from districts in Marion and surrounding counties are participating in a “Teacher Manufacturing Boot Camp” organized by America’s Workforce Development Capital, Marion Technical College, Ashland University and The Ohio State University at Marion.

This program shows teachers/school personnel what really takes place behind the scenes in the manufacturing industry. Participants will gain first-hand experience about the rewarding careers available in manufacturing companies in Marion County and understand the skills students need to be successful in these positions. They will also gain insights as to how to create lesson plans to solve real world manufacturing problems.

The Boot Camp schedule kicked off today with tours of Ohio State Marion and Marion Technical College and later this week includes industry tours to Wilson Bohannan, STAR, Whirlpool, International Paper, POET Biorefining, and Sakamura.

“This effort is a great example of collaboration between education and industry partners. The Boot Camp highlights the importance of connecting educators with manufacturers to allow eye opening insights into local industries in Marion, Ohio. Several of the manufacturers involved in this Boot Camp have provided input into the curriculum for Ohio State Marion’s Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degree program (which can be completed on Marion Campus). Kudos to everyone involved in this effort to further enable America’s Workforce Development Capital right here in Marion!” said Cathy Gerber, Ohio State Marion’s Director of Development and Community Relations.
