Free community concert on campus set for Sept. 8

In the spirit of kicking off the new academic year, The Ohio State University at Marion welcomes back the Palace Theatre Big Band to campus, Friday, September 8, 6 p.m. on the steps of the Library Classroom Building as part of a free outdoor community concert called Sunset Serenade.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments and set up around the central water feature on campus or just outside the Library Classroom Building to hear the band.

Band members include some of the best musicians in the Marion area. The band is led by George Schram. Other members are Bill Swihart, Rick Baird, Steve Cumbie, Neil Miller and Bob Carpenter on saxophone, with Wes Orr, Bob Walczak, and Liam Shotwell on trumpet, and George Schram, Thom Richards, and Parker Baird on trombone. The rhythm section includes Steve Patterson on bass, Jim Besch on piano, and Kyle Goings on drums. The band will be joined by renown area vocalists, Ann Schertzer and John Garnes.

Sunset Serenade is considered a Five Nights on Campus extra. Five Nights on Campus is a performing arts series designed specifically for the residents of the seven-county regional service area of Ohio State Marion and is intended to complement the other entertainment opportunities available in the area. This series features a variety of performance styles from traditional Irish folk music to the big band era, from Broadway to traditional choral, and even historical performance narrative. The mission of Five Nights on Campus is to provide exceptional and diverse cultural and educational opportunities and to encourage the community to be a part of campus life.
