The Ohio State University at Marion recently welcomed Mental Health and Wellness Counselor, Ellen Thomas, MS, LSW to the Office of Counseling and Wellness Services staff on the Marion campus.

Thomas is the second counselor hired by Ohio State Marion in the past five years and will meet with Ohio State Marion students to help them through a host of potential health and wellness challenges to ensure they have the best chance for success in college.

“I am really looking forward to being another support for students who have experienced mental health challenges and getting to know the campus community as a resource,” said Thomas.

Thomas earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa and later earned a Master of Counseling in Psychology from Indiana University.

She began her career in 1996 as a counselor at Fairbanks Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. She relocated to Delaware, OH in 1999 working for Southeast Mental Health. She later worked at Choices for Domestic Violence, Columbus, OH. For the past sixteen and a half years, she served as a counselor for Marion Area Counseling Center.

During her time at Marion Area Counseling Center she specialized in working with clients who had suffered trauma. She also worked with a number of area adolescents helping them cope with various mental health issues. She conducted suicide screenings at local area middle and high schools, and administered psychiatric screenings for patients at Marion General Hospital.

Originally from Iowa, Thomas resides in Delaware, OH with her husband of 23 years and their two sons, 17 and 13 years of age.
