Ohio State Marion inducts 4 new members into Alumni Hall of Fame

Surrounded by friends, family, fellow alumni and members of the university community, alumni, Stephen Geib, Dave Gorenflo and Ted & Marlene Temple were officially inducted into the Ohio State Marion Alumni Hall of Fame during a formal ceremony November 17th in Maynard Hall's Guthery Community Room.

Gorenflo’s enduring commitment to education, youth development, and community service exemplifies the spirit of Ohio State Marion. His induction celebrates a lifetime of meaningful impact.  Gorenflo’s career spanned nearly five decades, serving as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Elgin and River Valley Local Schools, and later at Marion Technical College. He continued to impact youth as STEM Coordinator at TRECA and Tech Prep Consultant at MTC. From 1973 to 2022, his influence touched generations of Marion County students. Beyond the classroom, Gorenflo co-founded the Marion Mathematics Challenge, a county-wide competition hosted annually at Ohio State Marion. He was also instrumental in helping to fund the naming of the Alber Center gymnasium after Greg Swepston, his close friend, mentor and fellow educator.  



Ted & Marlene Temple 2025 inductees

Ted and Marlene Temple are longtime leaders of the Ohio State Marion Alumni Club and champions of Buckeye spirit. For over 30 years, the Temples have organized hundreds of alumni events, raising substantial funds for scholarships and student programs. Their efforts have contributed more than $72,000 in personal giving and helped raise over $200,000 in scholarship funds for the campus through the annual Big Ten Buckeye Bash. Ted, a swim coach for over 50 years, and Marlene, a dedicated educator in Marion City Schools, have shaped countless lives through their commitment to youth and education. During their time leading the local alumni club, The Temples have supported nearly every campus event—from coordinating refreshments at Five Nights on Campus to stocking the campus food pantry. Their generosity includes funding the naming of the admissions office in Maynard Hall, awarding scholarships to local high school students, and countless hours of volunteer time for special events.

Stephen M. Geib 2024 inductee

Stephen M. Geib, former Executive Director and Founder of Agape for Youth, Inc., was recognized by The Ohio State University at Marion for his significant contributions to the university, the community, and young people as the 2024 Inductee to The Ohio State University at Marion Alumni Hall of Fame.  Geib, a native of Marion, Ohio and graduate of The Ohio State University College of Social Work, has been an outstanding advocate for youth across Ohio and the university throughout his career.  A graduate of River Valley High School, Geib began classes at Ohio State Marion from, on his way to earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Welfare from Ohio State.  Geib parlayed his degree, experiences, and desire to help others into a lifelong career building a strong foundation for young people. 

The Ohio State University at Marion’s awards program honors outstanding alumni who have contributed significantly to their professions and/or communities. Nominees must have successfully completed a minimum of two (2) semesters or three (3) quarters of full-time study at Ohio State Marion. Nominees must have attended The Ohio State University at Marion 15 or more years ago to be eligible for nomination. Nominees should be an advocate for the university and achieve distinction in their field and/or for making a difference in the lives of others through outstanding professional, personal or community contributions. Alumni may be nominated posthumously. Individuals may nominate multiple alumni. Please submit one nomination form for each person.
