Carlee Beaty attended The Ohio State University at Marion from fall 2006 to spring 2010, where she completed her undergraduate degree in English. Today, she is an English teacher at Metro Early College High School, an accelerated STEM school on Ohio State's Columbus campus.

After graduation, Beaty spent seven years working in early childhood education as a preschool teacher. Beaty shared that her English skills proved to be incredibly useful in this position teaching young children the basics of reading. Moreover, her excellent communication skills, which she learned as an English student, helped her to correspond with parents.

Beaty's said that her English degree from Ohio State has played a significant role in advancing her career as a high school English teacher. Although she went on to earn her master's degree at Ohio State to gain licensure, she still uses the things she learned in her English classes from her undergraduate degree at Ohio State Marion. In fact, Beaty shared that she teaches the text that she was taught in her freshman writing class with Professor Sara Crosby and uses a grammar presentation inspired by the tutoring class she took with Lynda Behan. Being a teacher has also made her realize the excellent teachers in the English department at Ohio State Marion, said Beaty, who taught her collaborative and enriching activities that she learned were evidence-based practices in her education program.

Beaty utilizes her communication skills every day in her job, both in person and in writing. Additionally, she has a deep and thorough knowledge of English literature, rhetoric, and composition that she imparts to her students daily. Her degree in English from Ohio State has made her highly marketable as she has excellent writing and speaking skills, which have helped her to create an impressive resume and be assertive and eloquent in job interviews.

Beaty said that if she were discussing choosing the English major at Ohio State Marion with an incoming freshman, she would tell them to take full advantage of their class time with their professors. She would encourage them to attend campus events and get involved in extracurricular activities, as these experiences helped her to develop a well-rounded education. She also believed that the small class sizes and top-quality professors at Ohio State Marion provided a liberal arts education at a state school price, which is unmatched by any other institution.
