Crawford County Megafauna: Mastodon Mystery
Bill Fisher, Crawford Park District
Tuesday, February 8, 7 p.m. (Rescheduled from Feb. 1, 2011)
The earliest and most noted mastodon find in Crawford County occurred in 1837, when a complete skeleton was unearthed near Bucyrus. Three other documented mastodon finds were recorded over the years, with the most recent finds in 1971 and 1973. These significant finds of the 1970's were from the same location on the Brokensword Creek near Sulphur Springs. Since a complete skeleton was never excavated, what other megafauna secrets would the earth relinquish at that site?
Come to this Science Café to find out what was learned by the Crawford Park District at a dig, organized in 2009, to search for other megafauna evidence on the banks of the Brokensword.
Free and open to the public.
