The Ohio State Marion women's volleyball team recently completed their 2010 season with another appearance in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship Tournament. This appearance represents the second time the Scarlet Wave volleyball program has been awarded a national appearance and the team has responded with another back-to-back “Elite-Eight” finish.
Several members of the Scarlet Wave were also honored with post-season awards in both the Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference (OCAC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) prior to the national championship tournament.
Ohio State Marion junior Megan Gibson, a Tiffin Columbian graduate, received the highest accolades as she was selected as one of only ten players that received a 2010 USCAA All-American honor. Megan was recognized as the nation’s best libero among all USCAA volleyball programs. She also became the first-ever player in the OCAC to receive a back-to-back OCAC First-Team honor and “Libero of the Year” player award.
Ohio State Marion junior Randi Nelson, a Marion Harding graduate, was selected as a member of the 2010 OCAC First-Team. Randi is a two-time award winner in the OCAC as a middle hitter for the Scarlet Wave.
Ohio State Marion junior Nikki Daugherty, an Olentangy Liberty graduate, also received consecutive year honors as she was selected as a member of the 2010 OCAC Second-Team. Nikki is also a two-time award winner in the OCAC as a middle hitter for the Scarlet Wave.
Marion Technical College freshman Kara Orsborn, a Highland graduate, receives her first honor as she was selected as a member of the 2010 OCAC Second-Team. Kara plays the setter position for the Scarlet Wave.
“This year’s version of the Scarlet Wave women’s volleyball team faced a lot of adversity with injuries and a tougher regular season schedule, but we found a way to get through the difficult times and prevailed towards the end,” stated head coach Mark Sisler.
“Our campus is especially proud of our ladies who received these special honors in our dual conferences. Their recognition will carry on a high standard for our underclassman to work towards for next season,” added Sisler.
