Sweet Funk on tap
Music of mountain dulcimer and guitar launches campus entertainment series October 14th

The Ohio State University at Marion Five Nights on Campus series welcomes Sweet Funk to Morrill Hall Auditorium, Thursday, October 14, 7:30 p.m.

Sweet Funk is a duet that performs an instrumental blend of contemporary, traditional, and original Appalachian music on mountain dulcimer and guitar. The name Sweet Funk comes from the Latin origin of the word dulcimer; dulci meaning sweet and funk meaning the group enjoys playing music that is a little funky and not traditionally played on the mountain dulcimer.

Dana & Hank Gruber first discovered the mountain dulcimer at the Appalachian Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1997, and have been performing as an acoustic instrumental duo ever since. Audiences enjoy the unique style and wide variety of music Sweet Funk offers during performances that are intermixed with the history of the mountain dulcimer and Appalachian culture.

Tickets for Sweet Funk are available in advance or at the door. Ticket prices are: $10 for adults; $9 for seniors; and $4 for students. Marion campus faculty and staff, which includes all Ohio State Marion and Marion Technical College personnel, are eligible for $8 discounted individual performance tickets.

Five Nights on Campus is a performing arts series designed specifically for the residents of the seven-county regional service area of Ohio State Marion and is intended to complement the other entertainment opportunities which are available in the area. The 2010-2011 season highlights a variety of musical entertainment styles and groups: Appalachian, a cappella, big band, classical, jazz, pop, and Hispanic music, with the opportunity for the audience to meet with the artists following each performance.
