University Chorus to perform at First Presbyterian

The Ohio State University at Marion’s University Chorus will perform their winter quarter concert Tuesday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic First Presbyterian Church in downtown Marion, Ohio.

 
The group will share the program with First Presbyterian Church Bell Choir (The Carillon-aires) and guest vocalists Gabe and Ednita Vaflor. The Vaflors are well known in the Marion area and have performed in numerous venues and events. The program will include a medley from the Broadway musical “Fiddler on the Roof,” Lacrymosa from the Mozart Requiem. Both the men’s and women’s chorus will sing. The program will conclude with a special arrangement of “Carmen Ohio”.
 
The Bell Choir from First Presbyterian is a five octave bell choir known for their advanced ringing skills. Julia Vanderhoff directs the bell choir and also the chancel choir at the church. First Presbyterian Church is a well known downtown Marion landmark. Notable attributes include stained glass by Tiffany and Co. and a four manual pipe organ by E.M. Skinner, which will be used in a special arrangement.
 
There is no charge for admission, however a donation of a non-perishable food item for a local food pantry is requested. .
 
University Chorus is directed by John Holsinger, the accompanist is Merrill Bender.
Holisinger has directed the chorus for the past three years. He is also Director of Music for Jerome United Methodist Church near Dublin, Ohio. He is a free-lance musician and plays piano and organ for numerous events in central Ohio. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University.
