Commuters traveling the southern and western boundary of the Marion campus at dawn may have noticed a bright pink glow emanating from the greenhouse that is part of Ohio State Marion’s newly constructed Science & Engineering Building. The mysterious pink light that has warranted so many questions from motorists and campus pedestrians is actually special LED greenhouse lighting system that emulates the growing power of the sun during shorter, darker winter days.

Take a stroll across the Marion campus and you’ll get an indication of the planned commitment Ohio State Marion personnel have made toward being good stewards of the environment. From energy efficient LED lighting in parking lots and buildings to solar panels, Ohio State Marion continues to find ways to save money and reduce its carbon footprint, explained Ohio State Marion Assistant Dean, Leslie Beyer-Hermsen, who spearheads sustainability tracking efforts for the campus.

Outreach
In hopes to eliminate food insecurity for college students in Marion, Ohio State Marion faculty and students take on a health and wellness initiative by bringing free fresh fruits and vegetables to campus. With the help of the Mid-Ohio Food Pantry and other sponsors, every 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month through April, about 150 students are served by the Fresh Express Market. This is an event that not only helps ensure the well being of our students, but also brings together faculty members, students, and staff as one strong community.
