Undergraduate Student Government

The Ohio State University at Marion values students and their opinions. One of the primary goals of Ohio State Marion’s Office of Student Life is to give our students an opportunity to excel in leadership roles, better preparing them for the world after graduation.

Undergraduate Student Government (USG), as one of the university’s most established and respected student organizations on the Marion campus. USG is a student organization that provides the campus administration advice and an undergraduate student perspective in the formulation of campus policy. USG is considered the primary undergraduate student based liaison between the undergraduate student body, the faculty, and administration.

Officer Positions & Responsibilities

President

Act as the principal spokesperson and ultimate authority of the organization. The President Shall serve a complete term from Autumn semester - Summer semester. Candidate must be a current officer of USG in order to run for office.

Vice President

Assist the President in the operation of the organization and act as the primary spokesperson in the absence of the President. The Vice President shall serve a complete term from Autumn semester - Summer semester. Candidate must be a current officer of USG in order to run for office.

Secretary

Maintain the organizational files, records, notes, and official correspondence for the organization in part and in whole. The Secretary shall serve a complete term from Autumn semester - Summer semester.

Treasurer

Serve as the chief financial advising officer of the organization and maintain the organizational funds and all financial records. The Treasurer shall serve a complete term from Autumn semester - Summer semester.

How to Become a Candidate for a USG Officer Position

  • Complete a Candidate Information Sheet. (You will be able to type in the form, save the file, and print it out or attach it to an e-mail.)
  • Write a Letter of Intent and submit it with the Candidate Information Sheet.
    Letter of Intent: Each candidate is required to submit a Letter of Intent. This letter will be posted on the website for Ohio State Marion students to use during the election. There isn't a length or format requirement. You should include the following information in your letter and any other information you feel will help Ohio State Marion students select you as a candidate:
    • Who you are and why you are running?
    • What leadership abilities have you demonstrated in the past?
    • Why should you be elected to USG?
