Graduating class is largest in university history

With pomp and circumstance, The Ohio State University will award a record 11,235 degrees to the largest graduating class in university history during spring commencement on Sunday, May 8. The ceremony begins at noon in Ohio Stadium. It is the third time in four years that the graduating class size has earned a record number of degrees.

Ohio State President Michael V. Drake will preside, and the commencement address will be given by Anthony S. Fauci, director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health.

Commencement weekend also includes the commissioning of 25 ROTC cadets as well as a pre-commissioning news conference with U.S. Army officer Lt. Gen. Mike Murray, the highest ranking active duty Ohio State alumnus, who will be the keynote speaker. Murray will be available to speak with reporters at 2 p.m. on May 7 at Converse Hall. The commissioning ceremony begins at 3 p.m. at Remembrance Park outside Converse Hall.

Media are also invited to cover the Commencement Eve Candlelight Ceremony for graduating students, their families and guests at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, on the Oval (in front of Thompson Library).

WHAT:
Spring commencement weekend includes ROTC commissioning, candlelight and graduation ceremonies.

WHEN:
On Saturday, May 7, ROTC Cadets will be commissioned in a 3 p.m. ceremony. Keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Mike Murray will be available to talk to reporters at 2 p.m. At 9 p.m., graduates and their guests will participate in the Commencement Eve Candlelight Ceremony. On Sunday, May 8, graduates enter Ohio Stadium beginning at noon.

WHERE:
Commissioning ceremony is in Remembrance Park, outside of Converse Hall, 2121 Tuttle Park Place. Candlelight ceremony is on the Oval, in front of Thompson Library. Commencement is in Ohio Stadium, 411 Woody Hayes Drive.
