Faculty, students, alumni, staff, and family members gathered on Friday, April 24th, 2015 for a formal reception in Maynard Hall’s Guthery Community Room to honor three longtime dedicated faculty members on the occasion of their retirement, and one faculty member who will now be teaching exclusively on Ohio State’s Columbus campus. Professor of Psychology, Terry Pettijohn; Professor of Education, Mary Jo Fresch; and Professor of Economics, Hassan Aly will retire after spring semester 2015. Professor of History, David Steigerwald will begin teaching classes in history on the Columbus campus after 25 years of teaching at Ohio State Marion. Aly, Fresch, and Pettijohn have a combined 87 years of service to Ohio State Marion, and a total of 112 years teaching including Steigerwald’s time on the Marion campus. Together the group has taught roughly 675 courses. “The departure of such a group of highly distinguished faculty is a real loss for Ohio State Marion,” said Ohio State Marion Dean and Director, Gregory S. Rose. “But, I think Dave, Hassan, Mary Jo, and Terry would agree that we have great veteran faculty soldiering on and great new faculty who will continue to build on the excellence that they have established for Ohio State Marion,” he added. Speaking on behalf of this group of dedicated teachers and researchers at the reception were fellow faculty members David Steigerwald, Linda Parsons, Tracy Tylka, and Chris Daddis. The group will each have a brick placed outside Maynard Hall in honor of their many years of dedicated service, research, and teaching while at the university. They will continue to be celebrated for the indelible mark they have left on the lives of thousands of students who have attended The Ohio State University at Marion.
