The Ohio State University at Marion recently welcomed Candace Floyd of Marion to their staff. Floyd was hired to serve as program coordinator for the Office of Student Life, Diversity & Inclusion on campus and has hit the ground running with Welcome Week activities and a host of other student involvement events planned for autumn semester.

The position oversees student organizations, activities, and programming. She will also train advisors and student leaders of student organizations, as well as other student leaders.

Reflecting on the future of the position, Floyd shared that she is committed to bringing both change and consistency to the position to help engage the student population at Ohio State Marion.

“My philosophy regarding student life and involvement is consistency. I strive to not just bring fun, engaging, and at times educational events to campus for our students, but to keep them going. I would like to present new and reoccurring events on campus for students every month. In doing so, I believe this will engage the students and help them feel more connected to their campus.”

A lifelong resident of Marion, Ohio, Floyd began her college career at the University of Akron in 2003 before transferring to Ohio State Marion in 2006 and completing her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a concentration in Public Affairs from The Ohio State University in 2008.

Prior to accepting the role with Ohio State Marion, Floyd served as the Administrative Assistant for the Teaching and Learning Department at Marion City Schools.

“I believe my position in Marion City Schools and passion for education and seeing students thrive along with my community involvement is the best experience for this job,” said Floyd.

Floyd is now stranger to working with young people, not only through her position with the school system, but at home where she has three teenagers one of which will be graduating in May of 2023. Floyd is also engaged to be married this December.
