Earth Sciences 1105 - Geology of National Parks

Dr. Joel Barker, 3 credit hours

Often referred to as “America’s best idea”, the National Parks are areas that have been deliberately set aside and preserved for the enjoyment of everyone. These are areas that highlight some unique or vulnerable aspect that we don’t want to violate or lose. Whether it be the stunning vistas of Yosemite National Park, or the preservation of endangered turtle populations in Biscayne National Park, geological phenomena play a dominant role in what makes these areas special. Students will become familiar with the geological processes that are responsible for, and highlighted in, National Parks in the United States.
