Many social scientists have documented gender differences in earnings among American workers, and a variety of explanations have been offered for the observed patterns. During the last half of the 20th century there have been changes in the gender income gap, but this gap has persisted.

At this Science Café Dr. Bobbitt-Zeher will lead a discussion of some of these patterns of change and persistence.

Questions that will be addressed include:

  • How are theses patterns best understood?
  • What is the role of higher education?
  • How does higher education contribute to both historical declines in gender differences in earnings and also to lingering income inequality?
