Weather Lore and Weather Oddities

Apparently it was Charles Dudley Warner and not Mark Twain who said "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it."
At this Science Café, at least, we can learn a bit about it, specifically about some of the common weather lore and weather oddities, like "red sky in the morning, sailor take warning; red sky at night, sailor's delight" and a certain rodent thought to be able to predict the coming of spring, and what meteorological facts (if any) might be hidden behind them.
