Science cafés involve a lively conversation with a scientist about current science topics.
They are open to everyone, and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses.

At a café you can

  • learn about the latest issues in science
  • chat with a scientist in plain language
  • meet new friends
  • speak your mind
  • talk with your mouth full

Drugs: Should we legalize them?

Marianna Klochko
Department of Sociology
The Ohio State University

7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, February 7

Humanity has been using a variety of substances for pleasure and ritual since humans formed relatively stable social groups. Most of these substances can now be considered illicit drugs. But, who decides whether the drugs are illicit and how do they do it? What are the true effects of these drugs on the user and society at large? Should drugs be prohibited or legalized?

This science cafe will discuss the issues of drug use and the effectiveness of law enforcement's attempts to control use and trafficking. Is there a possibility of finding a 'perfect' solution? Or should we just let anyone use any kind of drug they want?

Free and open to the public.
