The Ohio State University at Marion recently welcomed Karen Leuthold as program coordinator in the Office of Student Life, Diversity & Inclusion.
Leuthold is a native of the Bucyrus area and comes to Ohio State with extensive experience in residence life and higher education. She also has a background in communication. Leuthold will be coordinating student organizations, diversity and inclusion, housing, and intramural sports at Ohio State Marion.
She has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Malone University, Canton, OH. with a concentration in public relations. Leuthold also earned a Master of Arts Degree in Higher Education with a concentration in student affairs from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA.
Prior to arriving at Ohio State Marion, she served as resident director for St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. Her responsibilities included, creating social and educational programs for students living on campus, as well as training and supervising student leaders. Before her time at St. Vincent College, she worked as resident director for Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV.
Leuthold’s position and responsibilities at Ohio State Marion directly correlate to the campus’s recent work with private developers to construct student housing north of campus on University Drive. She will be creating social and educational programs to create a direct tie between campus and private student housing coming to Marion in 2015. In addition, she will be creating programs to cultivate student leadership on campus. She will work with students, faculty, and staff on campus to educate the campus community on the importance of diversity and inclusion as part of the university and campus’s overarching diversity goals.
She has a sincere interest in issues of social justice through her year volunteering for the Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience (PULSE). PULSE cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh, dealing with issues of poverty and social injustice. They invite talented university graduates to partner with Pittsburgh nonprofits for a year of service and leadership.
