Associate Professor of Mathematics, Dr. Christian Friesen of Delaware, Ohio and Education Lecturer, Patricia Muir of Granville, Ohio, were awarded the Marion Campus Teaching Award during the 46th Annual Academic Recognition Ceremony April 20 at Ohio State Marion’s Morrill Hall Auditorium.

This award honors two faculty members, one regular faculty member and one associated faculty member, for excellence in teaching. Chosen by their faculty colleagues, award recipients are announced annually at the campus academic awards program.

Dr. Friesen joined the faculty at Ohio State Marion in 1994. His area of expertise is algebraic & computational number theory: continued fraction; and class groups in quadratic function fields. His current focus is on the development of MULCH; a software system to create, distribute, and grade homework. Friesen earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics/Physics from University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island in 1989.

Patricia Muir began as a part-time faculty member in s 1994 and full-time in 2007. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Child and Family Studies from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, and her Master of Arts in Early and Middle Childhood Education from The Ohio State University. Muir also has her National Board Certification in Career and Technical Education.

In addition to Muir’s nomination, this year’s associated faculty nominees included: Biology Lecturer, Daniel Wojta. Regular faculty nominated for the 2017 award, in addition to Dr. Friesen, included Clinical Assistant Professor of Computer Science Engineering, Golrokh Mirzaei; Associate Professor of Mathematics, Aurel Stan; and Assistant Professor of Chemistry Ryan Yoder.
