The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion Technical College invite the campus community to the end of year campus-wide celebration, Springfest 2011, Saturday, May 21, noon-10 p.m.
Springfest will feature a day of live musical entertainment, food, inflatables, games, displays, and much more, beginning at noon. The highlight of the event is a live performance by internationally accomplished alternative rock band Quietdrive, with special guest 4 The Record.
The event is being organized by the Marion Campus Student Activities Board in appreciation for everyone’s hard work during another successful academic year.
According to organizers, this year’s event is being geared directly to our students, and bringing in a high profile rock group like Quietdrive is a big part of that.
“We checked out a number of bands,” said student activities board member Chance Glover, “but these guys (Quietdrive) sounded really good. They’re new and refreshing.”
Bradley Rand, also a member of the student activities board, added, “you don’t get bored with their music; it’s not like with some bands whose music all sounds the same.”
Both Glover and Rand said they’re, “very excited about Quietdrive coming to Marion. Students will surely be impressed.”
Formed in Minneapolis in 2003, Quietdrive toured the Midwest gaining notoriety from their energy-driven, live shows and their clever use of marketing over the Internet (MySpace.com). By late 2004, they signed with industry giant Epic Records and released their first album, titled When All That’s Left Is You in May of 2006. The song, Rise from the Ashes from this LP was featured on the Electronic Arts’ Sports NHL 07 Soundtrack.
Later in 2006, Quietdrive released their cover of the Cyndi Lauper song Time After Time and received nationwide radio play coming in at 57 on the U.S. Pop 100 Chart and 25th on the American Top 40 in 2007. This single was featured in the soundtrack for the feature film, John Tucker Must Die in 2006, and featured in the trailer to the 2008 remake of the film Prom Night. The song was also used by the WNBA’s “Have You Seen Her?” advertising campaign.
In January of 2007, the band was featured as “Artist of the Month” on Xbox Live. October 2008 brought the release of Quietdrive’s second full-length album Deliverance, and a new label, The Militia Group; launching their international tour in the US, UK, and Japan. The singles off this album, Kissing your Lips, Deliverance, and Hollywood appeared on the XBOX360 snowboarding game soundtrack, STOKED (2009).
The band released their EP Close Your Eyes in October 2009 on their independent label, Sneaker 2 Bombs Records and in December of 2010 they released their self-titled album Quietdrive. Currently on tour, the band is taking time to stop by The Ohio State University at Marion to perform at Springfest 2011.
Will Caesar guitarist and vocalist for the band said, “We are really stoked to play for your Springfest celebration.”
“We remember what college was like, added Caesar, “and how springtime typically signifies the end of the school year; a time to celebrate. We know it will be a lot of fun.”
Quietdrive has played in three Van’s Warped Tours, toured the world and played with many notable bands such as Bowling For Soup, Boys Like Girls, and an upcoming show in May with Lifehouse. The band will be touring all summer and in the fall, to support their Japanese label, they will be touring in Japan. The band also recently went to play for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Any free time we have we will be back in the studio writing,” Caesar said.
The group hopes to release another album early next year. Check out Quietdrive’s music videos at: http://www.quietdrivemusic.com or www.youtube.com.
In addition to the band Quietdrive and opening act 4 The Record, other live entertainment will include a compilation of community and student acoustic artists who have performed for the Campus Coffee House Series, in addition to the ToGay Show with Brad and Chance.
