North Central District Science Day
10. Special Awards
A variety of special awards will be presented at District Science Day. Students do not need to register for consideration for these awards.
The following awards are expected to be presented at the 2017 District Science Day. Some of these awards have not yet been confirmed, so changes to this list may occur.
Trophies for the top students with projects in:
Behavioral & Social Sciences
Biochemistry and Microbiology
Computer Science and Mathematics
Earth & Space Sciences
Medicine & Health
Grade Level Awards
Trophies for the top students with projects in each of the grades 6-12.
Trophies for the members of the top team.
School trophies to schools with at least 6 projects competing and with at least 70% superiors.
Note: Schools with "No-Show" projects are disqualified from consideration for the school awards.
The Ohio State University at Marion Scholarships
Four $1500 scholarships toward any course at OSU Marion for the top 12th grade project, the top 11th grade project, the top 10th grade project, and the top 9th grade project.
Eight $100 scholarships to the BWISER summer science camp for seventh grade girls.
Governor's Awards certificates for Excellence in Student Research in the following areas:
Agriculture and Food Technology
Biotechnology & Biomedical Technology
Advanced or Alternative Energy
Information Science & Technology
Advanced Materials Science
American Meteorological Society Awards
Two certificates for projects in atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.
American Psychological Association Award
A certificate recognizing outstanding research in psychology under the category Behavioral & Social Sciences.
Arizona State University Walton Sustainability Award
Two certificates for research that solves a complex problem involving social justice, environmental and economic prosperity.
Association for Women Geoscientists Award
A certificate for the top female student with a project in the geosciences.
Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award
A certificate and $200 for the top high school project in Computer Science.
Mu Alpha Theta Award
A certificate for the project that has the most challenging, thorough, and creative investigation of a problem involving modern mathematics. The Mu Alpha Theta is not limited to projects in the Mathematics category.
NASA EARTH System Science Award
A certificate for the top project in earth system science.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Award
A certificate and a NOAA medallion for the project whose research emphasizes NOAA's mission to understand and predict changes in Earth's environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources.
Office of Naval Research Award
Three awards in grades 6-8: Certificate & medallion. Two awards in grades 9-12: Certificate, medallion, & $50 gift certificate.
Ohio Soybean Association Awards
Three $100 prizes given to the top soybean related projects.
Ricoh Sustainable Development Award
A certificate for the project that offers the greatest potential for increasing our ability to grow environmentally friendly & socially responsible businesses.
Society for In Vitro Biology
A certificate for an 11th grade project in the area of plant or animal in vitro biology or tissue culture.
Stockholm Junior Water Prize
Sponsored by the Water Environment Federation. A certificate and advancement to the state competition for the top three high school projects that aim to improve the quality of life through improvement of water quality, water resources management, water protection, or water and wastewater treatment.
U.S. Air Force Awards
Four certificates and gift packs
U.S. Forest Service Awards
Two $25 cash prizes and certificates to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in applying the scientific method in studies of ecology, earth science, or environmental science.
U.S. Metric Association Award
A certificate for a project that involves a significant amount of quantitative measurement and which best uses the SI metric system for those measurements.
Water Environment Science Award
Sponsored by The Northwest Ohio Water Environment Association, for a project on wastewater/water reclamation. The winner will receive $100.
Yale Science & Engineering Award
A certificate for the most outstanding 11th grade project in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Chemistry.
