Major Requirements

This program encourages students to complete coursework, internships, and scientific research in the study of human behavior and mental processes. Students are required to complete Psychology 1100, Introduction to Psychology, before moving on to other coursework in the major. Psychology 1100 should be completed during the first semester. Students should complete Psychology 1300 during their freshmen year. This one credit-hour course provides a comprehensive introduction to the study of psychology, careers in the field of psychology and explores why research and internships are an important part of the undergraduate experience.

In addition to Psychology 1100 and 1300, the major requires a minimum of 36 credit hours of Psychology department coursework in four categories: Data Analysis & Research (Psychology 2220 and 2300)

These categories provide students with rigorous academic study of topics including memory and thinking, human development and behavior, attitudes and prejudice, and psychological disorders. Internships and research experiences can be completed for credits in the area of elective courses in the major.
