Major in English at Ohio State Marion, and we’ll help you forget yourself in exactly the manner Henry Miller encourages us to do. A degree in English offers students unique opportunities to learn more about their literary culture and history, create their own academic, professional, literary, or multimedia texts, and serve the greater Marion community and beyond through various volunteer and service-learning projects. As an Ohio State Marion signature program, English is one of several four-year degrees that students can complete entirely on the Marion campus. We offer the kind of support that will allow students to develop and complete their own honors theses, take part in various publishing projects, or participate in professional writing internships. And even for those who might ultimately decide not to major in English, we offer minors in creative writing and professional writing, as well as a pathway to pre-law, and a collaborative minor in engineering. Our faculty is made up of nationally recognized scholars and writers, not to mention expert teachers who strive to foster long-term mentoring relationships with students. With courses that cover such wide-ranging topics as science fiction, comics, film, digital media, creative writing, literary publishing, and more, English at Ohio State Marion appeals to students with all sorts of interests and talents.
